Yep! Interesting how they pick and choose which pagan things to be against. This is a real puzzler.
Eyes,
Do be careful with the Worldwide church. I knew there was a connection way back when I was a child. I used to go with my Dad on Bible studies and Herbert would be on the radio. The similiarities between him and the Witnesses were unbelievable. I also studied with a woman who belonged, and one of the church elders was trying to get her to have an affair with him under the guise of their religion. Also they wouldn't allow one of her children medical attention, they almost lost the child. It was a very weird and highly charged emotional situation. She was very confused. I often wonder where she is at in her life now.
And definitely be careful of joining any organized religion. It seems that once you are in, no matter what religion, there is a catch. I personally feel worshiping however you feel is right in your heart is enough. Each of us have our own feelings and intellectual yearnings, why not keep the freedom to use them as we choose. If used along with love and good ethics, it couldn't hurt anyone. And could do ourselves a world of good.

Another pagan ritual JW's practice
by TR ini recieved this in an email this morning: thanks, man.
it was the accepted practice in babylon 4,000 years ago that for a. month after the wedding, the bride's father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink.
mead is a honey beer and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month or what we know today as the honeymoon.. tr

Waiting for an apology?
by LDH ini was recently talking to a friend, an ex-admin from witnet, who said that they felt i was 'owed' an apology because of an offensive remark made on this board.. i didn't give it too much credence, since from time to time we all say things we shouldn't, but it did start a dialogue between us about things we would apologise for if we could.. on a really 'general' note, i mentioned i would apologise to every householder to whom i might have came across as being god's finger on their doorstep.
for people who are supposed to be humble, when you are told every day of your life that you have the 'truth,' it becomes obvious that everyone else has a 'lie.
' therefore, it's not too hard to picture yourself being sanctimonious at the door while preaching the gospel of our lord jesus.. i really can't comment on what he said because i would reveal his identity and don't have his permission to do so, but suffice it to say he wanted to apologise for pushing off his personal preferences on others (which he didn't even believe but which were being taught as the word of god).

For me this is a very difficult issue. I "helped" at least nine people to join the org. And this is sometimes hard to live with.
But they apparently still think it is right. I do know that when I "witnessed" to people, my heart was in the right place. I truly thought I was helping them and doing the right thing.
One of the people I studied with, became my very dearest friend. She is not talking to me now of course. This breaks my heart. I do know that over-all being a JW, has improved her quality of life. I just wish she could see the forest for the trees. I wish she could still live a better life with an open mind. She mentioned to my mother after I left the org. "Was everything she taught me and the way she was, just a lie?" I wish I could explain this to her. Maybe some day I will have the opportunity.

Anthony,
I believe your quiz quote is from Rev. 22.
JW's do eat meat.
And although I can't totally agree with some of the reactions to your presence here, I do agree that this isn't the place where you will find converts.
Most people here have made up their minds one way or another in how they have decided to serve God.
You are welcome to your beliefs. Some here are Christian some are not. Some are active JW's, some are not. No matter, what one decides to do with their spiritual life is personal. Whether they decide to use the Bible or not is also personal. Different things work for different people. Ours is not to judge. And personally, I don't think preaching to one's who don't want to hear it is appropriate either.
If you really want to ask questions about JW's I am sure one's here will be willing to answer them.
Beyond that, it is an infringement of one's personal rights.

Welcome Anthony,
There are so many things to say in response to your questions.
Just to highlight some thoughts on your posts.
JW's, do not believe Jesus died on a cross. JW's do not believe that the majority of other religious people will be saved. They believe they are the only ones with the corner on the market, when it comes to prophecy and they believe they are the mouth-piece of God. They believe they are divinely appointed to be God's messengers in the last days, to convert all others or as many as possible to their way of thinking.
They believe there is only one true organization with God's backing on earth and all others emanate from Satan.
They believe that Christ's return is eminent and 1000 thousand years of peace will ensue. At the great war of Armegeddon, they believe only JW's will be saved. They (the one's saved) will have the responsibility of teaching those who come back in a resurrection to earth, God's requirements.
They believe only 144,000 are in the New Covenant with Christ. They do not believe in a rapture, as the scriptures you quoted seem to indicate you do.
I am going to stop for now. Check out what the others told you. Study and truly think for yourself.

Something you should know about child molestation.
by spectromize ini realize that this is a very disturbing topic so i would encourage some of you before i get into my post not to read it if it bothers you.
this post has to do with me and how it happened to me as a young child.
if i can save one child from being a victim of this, then this will have been worth it.. it's not easy for me to talk about this as this is very personal stuff.

Spectromize,
Thank you for sharing. I think that each time we tell our life stories albiet how ugly, it is a healing for us. I too was molested. Inside and outside the org. It does hurt your self esteem. And no matter how hard we try it affects us. Sometimes even changing the course of our live.
My hat is off to you for your progress and you willingness to share no matter how difficult.
May you prosper and have peace.

The three wise men
by Simon injust a thought.... looking through the greatest man book, something just occurred to me which i can't recall has ever been highlighted (but please correct me).. i always thought it a bit strange that jehovah allowed the three pagan astrologers to find jesus especially as they were obviously guided to him by satan's star (remember they were led to herod first who wanted to kill the messiah).
what purpose did it serve?.
well, a few pages earlier in tgm book, we see mary presenting a dove as a sin offering at the temple - this was the cheapest offering that was acceptable which must have meant that they were pretty poor at the time.. shortly after the three wise men visited the family had to flee to egypt when herod started to kill all the young boys in an attempt to kill jesus.. what would they need to travel and live as exiles for a couple of years?.

Simon,
One of the coolest things about this forum is that questions I have had for years and suppressed are brought up verbally. I always wondered about that too. I have no answers, just concurrence on the question.
